Abu Dhabi: Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Cricket Club (ADCC), who attended Monday's Twenty20 match between Lashings World XI and ADCC Chairman's XI, said the event was another step in placing Abu Dhabi on the world cricket map.
"It is a great achievement to see some of the world's best players with such huge records and achievements under their belt to have come here and played. This will help in creating more interest in the game," said Shaikh Nahyan after meeting the teams during the break.
"I am also delighted that more UAE nationals are taking to the game and some of them have been very successful at the top level. Such matches will also help improve the standard of the UAE cricket team," he told Gulf News.
When asked about the likely bilateral series between the West Indies and Pakistan, Shaikh Nahyan said final talks were on.
"We are ready and the staging of this event will be another opportunity to put Abu Dhabi on the world map. We are very keen to bring top level sportspersons to perform here in the UAE," Shaikh Nahyan said.
