Dubai: Former Australian wicketkeeper Rodney Marsh does not believe that India are stronger than Australia.
"If Australia are weak it doesn't mean India are therefore much stronger," Marsh told Gulf News from Adelaide.
Marsh was instrumental in grooming players like Ricky Ponting, Glenn McGrath and Brett Lee as the head coach of the Australian Cricket Academy.
"Do not forget that Australia won the Test series and lost just three one-day matches and the last match they lost by just nine runs," pointed out Marsh, who is currently the Director of Coaching, International Cricket Council (ICC) Global Cricket Academy.
Marsh feels Australia can regain the invincible status again. "They should make sure never to lose another match, which, incidentally, will never happen," said Marsh, who has played in 96 Tests and 92 one-dayers as one of the finest wicketkeepers in the world.
However, Marsh admitted there was a dearth of talent in Australia compared with India. "Compared with India, there is a shortage of talent. But right now, there is enough talent to make Australia a very competitive team for some time."
To a query on whether Australia have hesitated in ushering in young talent like the Indians have in international cricket, Marsh said: "It's always nice to see young talent emerge. Australia did not have to gamble on young talent, as they've been so strong for so long."
Talking about who will be the right man to step into the shoes of Adam Gilchrist, Marsh said: "Brad Haddin is a fine player and I assume he will be Australia's next keeper."
