Sharjah: Azhar Gul smashed a half-century while Adnan Arif returned with a four-wicket haul as Emirates Islamic Bank beat Commercial Bank International (CBI) by 40 runs to win the Sharjah Cricket Council's Inter-bank tournament at the Sharjah Stadium.
Azhar hit 65 off 58 balls and featured a solid 73-run stand for the second wicket with Asim Kaleem, who hammered a quick 50 off 35 balls. Emirates Bank posted 190 for 7 in 25 overs.
For CBI, Shajil and Surya took two wickets each, but Emirates Islamic Bank batsmen never really felt threatened by the CBI attack.
CBI, in reply, were restricted to 150 for 8 despite a century stand for the third wicket between Azam and Shajil. Adnan Arif did most the damage, taking four wickets for just 20 runs.
Azam made 47 off 57 balls while Shajil, the most aggressive of the two, struck a fine 58 off 40 balls. The CBI innings just fell apart after their exit.
The Bowler of the Tournament award went to Husnain of Barclays Bank, while Saleem Khan of Barclays Bank won the best batsman award. Naeemuddin Aslam of National Bank of Dubai was adjudged the player of the tournament.
In the Texas Best event, Globe Weststar recorded a five-wicket victory over AMD but lost to Century XI.
Active IT too beat HBZ by seven wickets.
