Sharjah:  Sajid Mahmoud, England fast bowler of Pakistani origin, wants to play a series for England in Pakistan.

"I want to go to Pakistan and perform for England in front of my relatives," remarked Mahmoud, who is here to play for Lancashire in the Arch Trophy.

Mahmoud was born in Bolton. He has represented England in 8 Test matches and 21 one-day Internationals. All his international matches so far were in England, India, the West Indies and Australia.

"I have been to Islamabad four times with my parents and visited my relatives. Though I have played against Pakistan in England, it will be nice to play in Pakistan," said Mahmoud, whose best spell in international cricket also happens to be against Pakistan. Mahmoud had taken 4 for 22 at Leeds to bowl England to a 167-run victory.

"When I was young, I used to support Pakistan. I used to watch television and admire players like Inzamam-Ul Haq. But by the age of 12, my mind was focused on playing for Lancashire and England. I aimed to become a professional player and play for England and perform well," said Mahmoud, who made his Test debut at Lord's against Sri Lanka in May 2006.

Mahmoud, who had to undergo a double hernia operation, is getting ready to stage a comeback into the England team.

"I am working hard to maintain consistency. I feel very strong now and I am keen to perform in the middle. I have been concentrating on the position of my wrist to get the ball upright and also to get my action right," he said.
