Sharjah: Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar will inaugurate the Alam Steel Four-Nation Cup tomorrow at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
"This tournament is being revived after a gap of 18 years and we have invited one of the legends of the game to inaugurate it and inspire our players," said Shyam Bhatia, the sponsor of the tournament to Gulf News.
"Gavaskar is an ardent supporter of UAE cricket. He has always encouraged cricket here through his presence and has even presented the annual Bhatia awards for the top performers in UAE's domestic cricket. He is the right person to be present during a historical moment of UAE cricket," added Bhatia.
Participating
After the colourful inauguration being organised by the Emirates Cricket Board at 5pm, the Emirates India team, made up of the best Indian cricketers living in the UAE, will take on Emirates Pakistan team comprising the outstanding Pakistan cricketers here.
UAE captain Saqib Ali will lead Emirates Pakistan while Emirates India will be led by Naeemuddin Aslam. Emirates Sri Lanka and Emirates Rest are also participating in this tournament.
