Umm Al Quwain:  Al Futtaim Motors Toyota shattered the record for the highest score in domestic cricket in a 25-over match in the First Mascon Corporate Cup at the Umm Al Quwain grounds.

Al Futtaim piled up 495 runs in just 25 overs against Intertec XI to shatter the record of 423 runs in 25 overs set by Tiger Cricket Club in July 2006 at the Ajman Cricket Council ground.

Tiger Club had shattered the then existing record of 403 in 25 overs by Eurocon Alubond, which was also scored at the Umm Al Quwain grounds.

Intertec were bowled out for 131 and Al Futtaim went on to register a 364 runs victory.

Fastest century

"We are delighted to have such big scores at our venue.

"The distance to the boundary is 75 yards and still boundaries and sixes were scored with ease. All that we had done is to make the outfield very quick with regular rolling using clay," said Mushtaq Ahmad, the chief organiser of the tournament to Gulf News.

The architect of Al Futtaim's huge score was Saeed Bhuta, who hit a 206 in just 66 balls with 19 boundaries and 18 sixes.

He put on 268 runs for the first wicket, which is also the highest recorded in a 25 overs match. They shattered the record of 236 runs for the first wicket between Krishna Prasad and Davis in the Golden Tower tournament.

Shehzad too broke the record for the fastest century during the course of his unbeaten 136. He reached his century in 22 balls.

His 136 came off 29 balls with 10 boundaries and 16 sixes. He broke the record of Anirudh Swapnil of ETA Ascon who had scored a century in 27 balls against Jotun Paints in the Golden Tower tournament last week.
