Sharjah: Amjad Ali and Saqib Ali struck contrasting half-centuries as the UAE claimed the second day's honours in their four-day ICC Intercontinental Cup match against the Netherlands being played at the Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium yesterday.
Having dismissed the visitors for 287 on Thursday, the UAE batsmen scored 289 all out in reply.
Left-hander opener Amjad Ali compiled a watchful 55 off 190 balls to provide the platform for the UAE to build their innings.
Momentum
Saqib, who joined Ali at the crease after the fall of two wickets, was in an aggressive mood and struck eight fours and one six in his innings of 58 to take the total to 143 for three.
Amjad Ali was the fourth wicket to fall on 186, but the UAE batsmen maintained the momentum despite losing Khurram Khan (45) and left-hander Nizel Fernandez (36).
Rashid Khan put his head down and played a disciplined innings to take the UAE towards sight of the Netherland's target before becoming one of Edgar Schiferli's five victims.
His innings of 36 included three boundaries and a six. Right-arm medium-pacer Schiferli proceeded to wrap up the UAE tail, claiming the last three wickets to fall including Shoaib Sarwar and debutant Aman Ali for no score.
