Abu Dhabi: Twelve teams, including one comprising UAE nationals, will compete in the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council's 'A' Division Tournament, starting from April 12.
The teams will be divided into two groups, playing under 50-overs per innings format every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, an ADCC press release said.
All participating teams will be provided with coloured clothing and the winners will get Dh10,000 and runners-up Dh6,000 as well as trophies and other individual awards.
"A unique entry this year is the UAE Nationals Team," said Dilawar Mani, president of ADCC. "Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and ADCC Chairman, has a clear vision to encourage top-level cricket among the local and expatriate population of Abu Dhabi. ADCC has been aligned to this vision and supported the game with passion and with the intent to produce cricketers worthy of their place in the UAE National team.
Budding talent
"Such a tournament would assist in providing a talent pool of skilful cricketers. It is only with such opportunities that our budding talent will flourish and remind us of the 1996 World Cup when the UAE participated. We want to be part of the world's greatest cricketing event again."
The participating teams are NMC, Seven Seas, ECB Blues, Fly Emirates, Yogi CC, Abu Dhabi Gymkhana, Avis, CSS, Emirates Islamic Bank, UAE Nationals, Inter-Oil Company and Arab Udupi.
