Sharjah: Bas Zuiderent and Ryan ten Doeschate cracked centuries to help Netherlands post a huge total on the third day of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Intercontinental Cup match against UAE on Saturday.
Doeschate, who played here for Essex last month in the English County pre-season training Arch Trophy tournament, fully utilised his familiarity with the conditions to hit 146, while Zuiderent remained unconquered with 149.
Together they put on 232 runs for the second wicket. It was the Netherlands' highest first-class record partnership for any wicket.
UAE had taken a slender two-runs lead over Netherlands in the first innings on the second day.
Netherlands had lost an early wicket in their second innings when Mohammad Amam bowled Alexie Kervezee for eight.
But Zuiderent and Doeschate took full control and dominated the UAE bowling.
Doeschate hit 20 boundaries and six sixes, before he finally fell, caught at the boundary by Rashid Khan off Arshad Ali.
Ali, who has bowled brilliantly in this match, struck twice to bowl Eric Szwarczynski for three and Peter Borren for 18.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Tauqir bowled Dan Van Bunge for two and went on to trap Mudassar Bukhari leg before wicket for five.
Netherlands lost four wickets for the addition of just 17 runs and slipped to 309 for six.
Left-arm spinner Khurram Khan tightened the run flow by taking two wickets.
But Zuiderent kept the scoreboard moving to swell the lead, facing 273 balls, and hitting five boundaries and two sixes.
With eight wickets falling after tea, UAE batsmen will have to bat sensibly on a last day's wicket today.
Netherlands skipper Jeroen Smits will press for an outright win. An exciting last day's action is in the offing.
