Dubai: Delhi Private School (DPS) Dubai will host a six-a-side inter-school girls tournament under the guidance of former Indian women's team player -turned-coach Smitha Harikrishna.
The Young Talents Cricket Academy, that introduced many girls into the game, had pioneered the six-a-side tournaments for girls in the UAE.
Smitha has been coaching the girls at the academy. This will be the third edition of this inter-school tournament.
"When we started this event, we just had six teams. In the second year, the teams increased to 10 and now we have 12 teams and over 100 girls playing in this tournament," Shahzad Altaf, Director, Young Talents Cricket Academy, told Gulf News.
Rashmi Nandkeolyar, Principal of DPS, is keen to promote cricket among the girls in the UAE. The tournament will be played at the school's wicket, which was inaugurated by former Indian skipper Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi.
The tournament is being sponsored by NMC, Leader Sports, Everest Sports, Eros, Sewco and Marmum.
