Dubai: The Dubai Celts GAA Club will play host to the world's largest International Sevens Gaelic Football and Hurling event at the Dubai Polo Grounds and Equestrian Club this weekend.
This year's tournament has attracted an international spread of clubs: nine from Ireland, six from London, one from Munich and nine from Asia and the Middle East, including Hong Kong and Singapore.
Up to 1,000 players will participate in the two-day tournament which is sponsored by Dubai Duty Free and Larionovo.
Huge success
The highlight of the event will be a ladies' Gaelic football exhibition match between the 2007 Ladies All Stars and the 2006 Ladies All Stars tomorrow. The All Stars are selected each year from the leading players in Ireland, while the Ladies All Stars are sponsored by TG4.
"Last year's tournament was a huge success and we expect this year's one to be bigger and better again. It is an opportunity to showcase Ireland's unique games to the people of Dubai," said Colm McLoughlin, president of Dubai Celts and MD of Dubai Duty Free.
