Abu Dhabi: Former UAE striker and captain, Mohammad Omar, joined Al Dhafrah to help the team retain their First Division League berth.

Omar, who led the UAE to victory in the 18th Gulf Cup last year, before retiring from international football, was not part of his club team, Al Jazira, for almost six months, following a dispute with the club's former head coach, Dutchman Jan Versleijen.

Omar had started his career with Al Wasl in Dubai. He was later transferred to Al Ain where he played for many seasons, helping the club to win their first-ever Asian Champions League title in 2003, before joining Al Jazira.

Following his conflict with head coach Versleijen, Omar received offers from Kuwait and Syria to play professional football there, but the deals did not go through.

Omar will join his new team tomorrow after the match between Al Jazira and Al Dhafrah.
