Abu Dhabi: Sara Hasnein scored twice as Abu Dhabi Sports Club opened their campaign in the 2nd Ladies Football Tournament with a 4-0 win over Boshor Club from Oman.
The winners led 2-0 at the break of the inaugural match which was attended by Shaikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the Abu Dhabi Health & Fitness Club, organisers of the event.
The Abu Dhabi team, who took some time to settle down in the 7-a-side event, slowly gained supremacy and once Leen Esmail struck in the 5th minute their win was never in doubt.
Collecting a pass from Sara, Leen scored from the edge of the box, beating Boshor goalkeeper Aya Abdul Sameha.
A little later, Sara made it 2-0 when she grabbed a loose ball inside the box and shot home.
Boshor lost their dependable defender Roxy, who injured her knee and weakened the visitors considerably.
Good saves
After the break, the Egyptian star scored her second, this time a brilliant shot from Sara from 30 yards and Sameha's diving effort could not prevent the goal and the effort saw the Omani custodian take no further part with a shoulder injury.
Amira Busaidi, who replaced Sameha in goal, did well to come up with three good saves and Oman tried to counter-attack. But it was Abu Dhabi Sports Council who scored, this time substitute Marian Ebrahim heading home a perfect cross from Hakima Buseit to complete a 4-0 win.
Mahfouz Mohsen, Board Member of the Abu Dhabi Sports Club and General Manager of the ADHFC said the tournament is being held under the patronage of Shaikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
"The players and teams were honoured by Shaikh Hazza's visit to the opening ceremony and the inaugural match. He has asked us to ensure the teams are given full support and the spectators enjoy some quality play by the lady footballers," Mohsen said.
The final will be on February 13.
