Dubai: Al Wasl's final preparations for their first match in the Asian Champions League against Al Quwa Al Jawiya of Iraq in Group B at the Al Wasl stadium on March 12 will begin on Saturday.
Saipa of Iran and Kuwait Club of Kuwait are the other two teams in the group.
Al Wasl, the UAE league champions last season, return to the tournament after a 10-year absence.
Al Wahda are the second UAE representatives in the Asian Champions League. They meet Al Karama of Syria in an away match on March 12.
Former stars
Al Wasl meet Al Ain tomorrow in the league's 14th stage at the Al Wasl stadium as the final rehearsal before meeting the Iraqi team in the Asian champions league on Wednesday.
It will be the first participation in the tournament for Al Wasl's current stars such as Khalid Darwish, Abdullah Eisa, Tariq Hassan, Majid Naser, Tariq Darwish, Eisa Ali, Ali Mahmoud, Wahid Hasan.
The Al Wasl Brazilian trio Oliviera, Diaz, and Rogero will also take part league for the first time.
Current crop
The last time Al Wasl took part in an Asian tournament was in 1997 after they clinched the UAE league title that season.
At the time, the team included many stars of UAE soccer such as Zuhair Bakhit, Fahd Khamis, Adil Anas, Hasan Polo, Naser Khamis, Ahmad Mehboub, Farouq and Fahd Abdul Rahman.
The current players will be eager to achieve success after clinching the double (League title and President Cup) last season.
