Sharjah: Emirates Islamic Bank produced a disciplined all-round performance to beat Lanka Lions SC by 96 runs in the 34th Bukhatir League 'A' Division tournament, organised by the Sharjah Cricket Council, at the Sharjah Stadium.
The bankmen, batting first after winning the toss, rode a solid innings of 69 by Atif Iftikhar to post 227 before being all out in 48.2 overs.
Atif, who smashed three fours during his 80-ball knock, was well supported by Azhar Gul (37) and Abdullah Mazhar (25).
Taraka and Janaka took three wickets each, while Arun claimed two for the seasoned Lanka Lions side, but their efforts went in vain.
Lanka Lions, in reply, needed some healthy contributions from their batsmen to retain the momentum, but they failed to negotiate the spot-on Emirates Islamic Bank attack and kept losing wickets at regular intervals.
Zahid Shah and Sajid bowled quite effectively, taking three wickets apiece, while Asim Kaleem picked up 2 for 23 as the Lanka Lions were bowled out for a paltry 131 in 34.2 overs.
