Dubai: Al Quwa Al Jawiya (Air Force) Club of Iraq continued with their training at the Al Shaab Club stadium in Sharjah for their first match in the Asian Champions League Group B against Al Wasl. The match is scheduled to be played on Wednesday at the Al Wasl stadium in Dubai.
Members of the Iraqi club had arrived last week with an 18-member delegation. They began training at Al Shaab under coach Rahim Hameed. The Iraqi team beat the Police team of Abu Dhabi 4-2 in a warm-up match last Thursday.
Coach Hameed said: "We know Al Wasl are a leading club in the UAE. Last season, they clinched the double [President's Cup and the league title], which means we will face a tough task next Wednesday. Despite their eighth position on the league table this season, we watched them beat Sharjah 4-0 and reach the Cup final. That showed that they are a strong team."
Al Quwa Al Jawiya are on top of the Group B league table in Iraq. The group includes teams from the Iraqi capital Baghdad. Al Quwa are representing Iraq in the Asian Champions League, along with Arbeel Club who had won the Iraqi league last season.
