Dubai: The Dubai Sports channel announced on Saturday the Shaikh Mayed Bin Mohammad Season Stars Awards, to be allocated to distinctive and creative players in UAE football.

The total prize money for the awards is worth Dh2 million, which will be distributed to the best in football - player, coach, referee, administrator and one for the best supporter as well. The prizes will be delivered to the winners in a ceremony which will be held at the end of the season, on May 31, in the presence of world and Arab football stars.

Yaqoub Al Sa'ady, deputy chairman, Dubai Sports channel, announced in a press conference the prize money for each winner. The best Emirati player will get Dh200,000 and a deluxe car. The best foreign player, the best goalkeeper and the best youth player each will be richer by Dh100,000. They will also be given a trophy.

The best Emirati coach, the best foreign coach, the best manager, the best referee and the best supporter of a club will each receive Dh100,000.

Shaikh Mayed Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum will present a special excellence award for sports research or an award for excellent media effort. The award will comprise Dh100,000 and a trophy.

Selection of winners

The selection of the award winners will be done by the award board committee, comprising sports writers and retired footballers such as Adnan Al Taliyani and Fahd Khamis.

The award committee will represent 40 per cent of the total votes in the selection of the winners, while the remaining 60 per cent will come from public votes through SMS, to be conducted by the channel.

The awards aim to uphold the spirit of sportsmanship and sporting principles. The awards seek to encourage excellence and creativity in sports and also aim at appreciating outstanding efforts in sporting fields. Encouraging the spirit of competition, challenge and victory are the other objectives. The awards also seek to encourage media to stimulate and motivate outstanding players and winners.
