Dubai: None expected a five-a-side football tournament to be exciting but the seven schools which participated in Dubai American Scientific School's (DASS) five-a-side event produced thrilling matches.
Al Diyafah High School, Dubai won the title beating Westminster 'B' through a 5-4 penalty shoot out.
"All the matches were tough but our team's determination and team spirit won us the title," said Aby John, the coach of the Al Diyafah School.
Early lead
In the final, Westminster took an early lead and looked set for victory. They scored their first goal in the fifth minute and added another three minutes later.
Ali Shehabi of Al Diyafah reduced the margin by finding the target. Westminster struck again in the second half.
With six minutes remaining, Al Diyafah scored again through Rahil Arif and Shehabi netted another to end the game 3-3.
In the penalty shoot out, Diyafah goalkeeper Pruthvi Purabia produced two brilliant saves. Shehabi and Josanto Fernandes scored for Al Diyafah while Westminster converted only one spot kick.
