Dubai: The third edition of the Lusitanians six-a-side football tournament has attracted a full field of 16 teams.
The annual tournament, sponsored by Sun and Sand Sports, will be held at the Sharjah Wanderers Club on April 4.
The first match will kick-off at 2 pm with each game being played for 10 minutes without a break.
The tournament is supported by United Colour Film and Atlantic Tours & Holidays, Sharjah.
The 16 participating teams have been divided into four groups of four teams each with two groups playing simultaneously on the two pitches.
The format of the tournament will give all teams a chance of t winning a trophy.
The top teams from each group will contest for the Sun and Sand Sports main trophy, while the second placed teams from each group will contest for the second category trophy.
Rolling trophy
The third and fourth placed teams will also contest for the third category and fourth category trophies respectively.
Organisers Lusitanians have also introduced a rolling trophy with the team that wins three tournaments on the trot earning the right to keep the trophy for keeps.
Holders Sharjah Wanderers and runners-up Al Zuari Goa Velha are among the teams confirming their presence for the competition.
Teams have been requested to be present at the venue by 1.30 pm for final registration and timely start of the tournament.
The organising committee consists of Patrick Vaz, Rommel Rodrigues, Pradeep Dubey, Swaroop D'Souza and Nigel Coelho.
