Abu Dhabi: Former UAE custodian Yahya Abdul Karim, the Secretary General of Sharjah Sports Council, has surprised the local football community and announced, officially his nomination for the presidency of the UAE FA in the last moment before the deadline of the nomination late on Thursday night.
Mohammad Khalfan Al Rmaithi, the present FA Chairman, was the only nominee till the last day and it was believed that he would win the post unopposed. Al Rumaithi, from Al Ain Club, was the vice chairman before the resignation of former chairman Yousuf Al Serkal and was appointed by the FA General Assembly as chairman in January.

Abdul Karim said after submitting his nomination by his club Sharjah, "I was a graduate from the football grounds. I played for Sharjah and the UAE and it is important for me to enrich the election process and the democratic way.
"It is important for me to enter the elections and compete for the first place as I did in my playing days. But I will surely support Al Rumaithi if he won the election because he played a good role when in charge of the FA."
Meanwhile, Al Rumaithi announced his election programme which included supporting the steps to establish and develop the professional league. Improving the competitions in the first and second divisions and providing all facilities to improve the local referees and coaches.
The clubs have nominated 21 candidates for the new board of directors with two competing for the presidency and two competing for the vice president: Saeed Abdul Ghaffar, from Al Shabab club and and Ali Ahmad Mohammad from Al Jazira Al Hamrah.
The other 17 for the May 28 elections are: Abdul Wahab Ahmad, Younus Khory, Kahlid Bin Fares, Saeed Abdulla, Mohammad Mattar Ghorab, Khalfan Al Darmaki, Mohammad Saeed, Rashid Al Zaabi, Abdul Karim Mohammad, Mohammad Abdul Aziz, Abdulla Salim, Saleem Sorrour, Abdulla Saeed Al Shamsi, Nasir Mohammad Al Yamahi, Mohammad Al Sakkar, Ahmad Al Dabbani and Rashid Al Hilli.
