Dubai:  The Football Association election committee (FAEC) has decided to reject the nominations of two candidates for their board elections, to be held on May 28.

Ganem Ahmad Ganem of the Emirates Club and Rashid Hussain Al Hilley of Dubai Club were the only candidates to be dismissed due to incomplete information in their official papers sent by their clubs.

"We rejected the applications of Dubai and Emirates because of their clubs not fulfilling the required information which was stipulated in the election regulations," said Hamad Bin Brook of the FA after chairing the elections committee meeting.

Bin Brook said that the FAEC accepted the withdrawal of two candidates by their clubs. "Al Shaab Club withdrew the nomination of Adnan Al Taliyani and Hatta Club also withdrew Abdul Rahim Obaid. However, the two clubs replaced them with new candidates: Al Shaab Obaid Al Shamssi and Hatta Khalid Faris."

He said the appeal window will open from April 6 to 10 for clubs if they have any appeal against any of the candidates. "The appeal committee will hold a meeting on April 13 to discuss the clubs' appeals if there are any; after that the final list of candidates who will take part in the elections on May 28 will be sent to the clubs."

Limited role

The FAEC chairman announced the names of 20 candidates for the board of directors' election next month.

Following are the nominations (Chairman): Mohammad Khalfan Al Rumaithi (Al Ain Club); Yahia Abdul Karim (Al Hamriya Club).

Deputy chairman: Ali Ahmad Elsherrif (Al Jazira Al Hamra) and Saeed Abdul Ghafar (Al Shabab).

Board memberships: Khalid Faris (Hatta), Saeed Abdullah (Al Wasl), Younis Khoury (Al Jazira), Mohammad Mattar Gorab (Al Ahli), Rashid Al Zaabi (Al Wahda), Mohammad Abdul Aziz (Sharjah), Naser Al Yamahi (Fujairah), Abdullah Al Kuthairi (Bani Yas), Sileem Surour (Al Dhafra), Abdul Wahab Ahmad (Al Taawon), Khalfan Ali Khalfan (Ittihad Kalba), Mohammad Saeed Al Nuaimi (Ajman), Abdul Karim Abdul Rahman (Al Arabi), Mohammad Salim Al Sakkar (Ras Al Khaimah), Obaid Al Shamssi (Al Shaab), Ahmad Ali Al Dibani (Al Jazira Al Hamra).

Some clubs did not nominate candidates because the FA board will be responsible only for the second division league and the national teams' commitments once the first division league becomes a professional league from the 2008-09 season.

A professional league committee will then be formed to run the show.

AL NASR OFFICIAL FINED

The UAE Football Association tournaments committee decided to warn and fine the Al Nasr Club board of directors' chairman Qadi Muroashid Dh20,000 for his derogatory remarks in the local media about the referees' committee. Following his club's 2-1 loss against Al Shabab, Muroashid said that the quality of supervision is a disaster and he would be supporting those who would call for getting referees from outside to officiate in the league matches.
