Abu Dhabi: A total of 28 goals were scored in six matches in the 18th week of the etisalat first division league.
Experts consider the large number of goals was a result of the fact that with only four weeks remaining all clubs are looking for points either to win the title or to escape relegation and with the players advancing to attack they leave their backs open for the opponents and thus a large number of goals were scored because of defensive and goalkeeping mistakes.
Attacking moves
Mohammad Matter Ghorab, former player and coach and now expert with Dubai Sports TV, told Gulf News, "It is of great importance at this stage of the competition that the teams should have a balanced defensive and offensive strategies. No one can attack and win without covering his back. You cannot win by defence only and also it is impossible with only attack. There are so many goals which were direct results of bad defending or poor goalkeeping than good attacking moves.
"In the match between Al Wasl and Al Wahda which ended in a 4-4 tie, most of the goals were scored following fast counter attacks, and poor goalkeeping," Ghorab added.
"The next four weeks are crucial and all the teams, on top and bottom of the standings, should adopt a balanced plan of play in their quest to win points at a time when all the players will be under tremendous pressures from their coaches and fans to do their best."
