Dubai: Al Ahli are in an enviable position of becoming the only UAE club to win both titles twice in a season.
Al Ahli won the President's Cup beating defending champions Al Wasl earlier this month. Their sights are now on the etisalat UAE National Football League crown that concludes with the final round matches on May 25.
Should Al Ahli win the league this year, they will sign off as the only club to notch a double twice in the history of the game in the UAE.
Al Nasr, Al Shabab and Al Wasl have inscribed their names on both the President's Cup and the league once each in the past. Al Ahli too have won the double once before.
"And should we win the league, we will sign off as the only club in the country to achieve this feat twice during the tenure of the amateur league," Hussain said.
The UAE FA has already announced plans to conduct a professional league starting next season.
"Our goals will be different for next year with the start of the professional league as we want to raise the standard and start concentrating on winning the AFC Champions League," Hussain said.
"We have the quality in our team and each of our players is motivated in taking Al Ahli to the highest level possible."
