Dubai: The UAE national team for retired footballers returned yesterday from Thailand where they participated in the World Cup for retired players held from April 20 to 28.
The UAE team lost two matches against Iran 3-2 and England 6-2, they drew 1-1 with Taiwan and fail to reach the semifinals.
Hassan Ali the UAE skipper said the team was not prepared well.
"This was the fourth time we took part in the tournament.
"We first took part in 2005 and the best result was in 2006 when we finished runners up and won the silver medal," Ali told Gulf News yesterday.
He said the poor results were due to poor preparation.
"We should have been prepared for at least one month before the tournament and play warm-up matches, but that didn't happen," said Ali.
The team included UAE footballer of the century Adnan Taliyani along with Naser Khamis, Abdul Rahman Mohammad, Abdullah Sultan, Saeed Abdullah, Ebrahim Saleh, Fahd Abdul Rahman, Badr Saleh in addition to players over 50, Mubarak Balaswad, Mohammad Al Koas and Mohammad Al Johary.
