Dubai: The UAE FA has confirmed the date for a possible title-deciding playoff.
Chairman Hamad Al Midfa said the clash would be held at a neutral ground on Sunday, June 29.
There is a real possibility of the first division title being settled through a playoff with several teams in the hunt for the championship.
Concerns had been raised, however, that it could clash with the national team's preparation for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Al Shabab currently head the etisalat first division with with 35 points. Al Ahli have 33, while Al Jazira and Sharjah both have 32.
Goal difference
If two clubs tie on points after the end of the season on May 25 then a playoff will be held.
If more than two clubs tie, then the title will be decided on goal difference.
The first time the league was decided through a playoff was during the 1984-85 season when Al Wasl beat Al Nasr 1-0 at the Sharjah stadium.
Most recently Al Ahli beat Al Wahda 4-1 during the 2005-06 season.
Al Midfa also said a playoff will be held at the end of May if there are two clubs at the bottom of the table on equal points.
"The FA regulations stipulate a playoff must be held. It will be on May 30 between the two clubs who are equal on points at the bottom of the table to decide the relegated club."
Al Wahda, Hatta and Emirates are among the teams at the bottom.
