Abu Dhabi: The UAE trounced Qatar 27-0 to lead the GCC Football Championship for the Hearing Impaired, organised by the Zayed Higher Organisation for Humanitarian Care, Special Needs and Minors Affairs.
The UAE now have a better goal difference than Kuwait after both teams collected nine points from three matches.
Abdullah Al Wahidi and Waleed Ridhwan were the heroes for the hosts, scoring 9 and 8 goals, respectively, in the one-sided-game. Musabbah Al Niyadi scored 5, Adnan Al Jaberi a brace, while Esmail Al Hammadi, Abdullah Al Suwaidi and Waleed Al Hammadi completed the tally.
Former leaders Kuwait defeated Oman 4-3 with Naser Fahad scoring a brace and Ayedh Al Ajami and Mohammad Mehdi adding one each for the winners. Ahmad Mohammad scored twice and Hassan Manie once for the losers.
Saudi Arabia snatched the third place from Bahrain, beating them 9-2. Majid Awad Al Asmari scored 4 goals, Mohammad Hassan Al Ameri and Mohammad Al Shammari scored two goals each, while Abdullah Al Sheri scored one for the Saudis and Khalif Ebrahim Hussain scored two goals for Bahrain.
The tournament comes to an end today with Oman meeting Qatar at 10am, while Kuwait meet Bahrain at 11.15am and the UAE meet Saudi Arabia at 5pm, followed by the closing ceremony.
