Dubai: Former Chelsea star Graeme Le Saux has backed Avram Grant to continue coaching the Stamford Bridge club because his methods have weeded out uncertainties surrounding players and provided them with a platform to express themselves.

Despite helping the Blues finish second in the Premiership and guaranteeing them their first Champions League final, Grant's future at the club remains a doubt with many expecting him to be sacked irrespective of tonight's result. Le Saux however, feels the Israeli deserves to be treated better because a Chelsea win in Moscow's big game against English arch rivals Manchester United, will help Grant's stock rise to another level.

"I think it'd be sort of ironic [if Grant leaves the club]," Le Saux told Gulf News.

"I think winning the Champions League would make him a very important person at the club. There's a lot of speculation surrounding him as to whether he will be with Chelsea next season, but I feel whatever happens between now and the final, I think he's done very well for us and he should be allowed to enjoy that.

"He shouldn't have to worry about whether he will be at Stamford Bridge or not. I think what Grant has achieved most is consistency. He is consistent when picking his team and has his policies have created an environment where the players are able to express themselves, which is exactly what you want. You get that freedom and the discipline to know what's expected of you as a player.

"He's got Joe Cole playing very well and he's rightfully been elected player of the year for Chelsea, then Michael Ballack's had his best spell since joining the club. There's no uncertainty left."
