Dubai: Manuel Almunia believes the least Spain can achieve at the European Championships is make the knockout stages of the tournament in Austria and Switzerland.
The Spaniards have made a habit of choking in big tournaments and failed to get past the group stages of the last competition. This time round they face Russia, Greece and Sweden in the early stages.
However, their attractive brand of football has long classed Spain alongside the world's top footballing nations, and Arsenal goalie Almunia, feels his countrymen will be in for a rough ride once in the Alps.
"I think Spain have enough of talent to get past the group stages of the competition," said Almunia, who conducted an Emirates-sponsored goalkeeping clinic at Jumeirah English Speaking School in Arabian Ranches.
"We have guys like [Cesc] Fabregas who are young, but mature and they're developing very quickly, so it should be interesting.
"However, the knockout stage will be very difficult because we could meet France, Holland or Italy and we all know how good these footballing nations really are," he added.
