Dubai: Al Nasr's former striker Eissa Juma has signed a contract to become the senior team's full-time manager ahead of next season's professional league which kicks off in September.

Juma replaces former manager Salah Jalal, who resigned along with administrator Eissa Yousuf at the end of last season.

The retired striker began his career playing for Al Nasr's youth teams in the late Eighties, and went on to wear the No 10 shirt for 15 years with the senior team.

His first duty at the helm will be to choose a location for Al Nasr's August training camp, and is set to travel to France, Austria, Switzerland and Slovakia, on a scouting mission.

But the former fans' favourite will have his work cut out - Al Nasr have not won a major title since clinching the President's Cup in 1989.

"It's something unbelievable that Al Nasr, the oldest club in the UAE, haven't won a major title for 19 years," said Juma, after signing a contract with Al Nasr's Club Manager Ahmad Saeed Al Gaith at the club's premises.

"We must work hard in the coming season if we are to win the league or the President's cup.

"We must have discipline, sacrifice, faithfulness and we must stand together - all these factors will help us achieve success and clinch titles."

And the former striker warned there would be no playing favourites during his time in charge.

Work hard

"I will make no differences between the big players or the youngsters," he said.

"Each player will be treated according to what he achieves for Al Nasr on the field. The players who work hardest and spare no effort in defending the Al Nasr colours will be the ones who deserve to play and wear the Al Nasr shirt," he said.

Al Nasr finished eighth last season, but fans were bouyed after coach Luka Bonacic claimed they would be competing for titles next season.
