Al Ain: The UAE face Syria on Sunday night in the last match of the preliminary round of the Asian qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup having a huge advantage.
The match will be held at the Tahnoon Bin Mohammad Stadium in Al Qattarah, here, at 8:00.
The UAE will win promotion to the final round of the qualifiers if they win, draw or even lost 2-0 while victory alone is not enough for the Syrians who need to win by at least 3-0 to reach the last phase of the qualifiers.
But despite the huge advantage, Bruno Metsu, has cautioned his players not to take the match or their opponents for granted and asked them to go out for a win.
"We have not yet finished the qualifiers. Every thing is expected in football and we have to do our best in our last match," Metsu told Gulf News yesterday.
"The Syrians are a good team and they are capable of achieving good results but so are we. We want to finish our task in style and continue playing good football."
Syria's coach Mohammad Kwid confessed the difficulty of his team's task in the match. "It is difficult to beat the UAE away 3-0 but we still have hope and confidence in our players but we need more than doing our best. We need a miracle," said Kwid.
