Manchester:  Real Madrid's efforts to prise Cristiano Ronaldo away from Manchester United will take a decisive turn tomorrow when the clubs meet head-on.

United chief executive David Gill and senior Real executives will be at the inaugural general assembly of the European Club Association, which has replaced G14.

The fact that Gill will be under the same roof as high-ranking Real officials has prompted massive interest on the day Real's flagship newspaper, Marca, claims time has been set aside for unveiling Ronaldo at the Bernabeu - even though he has four years left on his contract and is about to undergo an ankle operation that could sideline him for six weeks.

Last night United confirmed that Gill would be attending the two-day meeting at UEFA headquarters in Switzerland along with representatives of 100-plus other clubs across Europe, but reiterated that Ronaldo was going nowhere.

"There will be little to talk about in terms of Ronaldo because he is not for sale and Real know what our position is," said a club spokesman.

"David Gill, the manager and the owners are adamant about this. In terms of setting the budget, our transfer dealings were sorted out in May."
