Abu Dhabi: Dr Sulaiman Al Fahim, CEO of Hydra Properties which represented the Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment, said the driving force in sealing the Manchester City deal was to gain total control.
In an exclusive interview with Gulf News late last night, Dr Al Fahim said, "We were looking at clubs in Europe and Latin America. But Manchester City has a lot of history and is part of the world's best league. We did have a few choices. But we were not interested in just holding a share but in gaining full control so that we can have a say," he said.
"And within 24 hours to sign one of the greatest players (Robinho from Real Madrid) is really fantastic. I will be meeting with Mark Hughes on Friday and then we will get down to details on how to progress further. We do have a few other key players in our mind and hopefully we will get them during January," he said.
"Our aim is to make Manchester City the best club in the world and we are looking at silverware. When we sit with the technical committee we will discuss further and we are keen to emerge as strong contenders for the Premiership in the next three years."
