Dubai: Shaikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Mohammad Bin Rashid Creative Sports Award and Chairman of the Dubai Event Management Corporation, unveiled the logo of the award and launch its website at a ceremony held at Raffles hotel on Tuesday evening.
Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Group and Chairman of the National Olympic Committee, and Shaikh Ahmad Bin Hashr Al Maktoum, gold medallist at the 2004 Athens Olympics, attended the ceremony along with other dignitaries and sports personalities from different associations.
Shaikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad said he was pleased to unveil the logo and the website of the award.
"The award acquires a great prestige because it is linked to my father's name: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the first sportsman in the UAE and a man of generosity.
"His openheartedness helped the UAE reach out to other Arab countries and the world for his continuous initiatives in different aspects of life -supporting education, health, helping needy people and spreading peace," said Shaikh Ahmad.
He added: "This Award comes as a momentous incentive for creativity through sports in the UAE and the Arab countries and the world by honouring the excellent athletes and encourage them to achieve more success and victories in continental and international level.
Great role
"The Award highlights the importance of sports and the great role it plays in developing societies and spreading the spirit of healthy competition among people," he said.
Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Award, also spoke on the occasion.
"The Award is not like any other which honours only the champion athlete but it also includes three categories: a) Award for individuals sports creativity b) Award for team sports creativity c) award for establishment's sports creativity," said Al Tayer.
He said that the award's logo is symbolising victory and triumph - the ultimate goal for any athlete, team or establishment.
The ceremony also included a documentary film depicting the life of Shaikh Mohammad, while another film projected Shaikh Mohammad's support to the UAE and Arab sports movement.
