Dubai: Al Hamra Golf Club continued its drive as the premier golf resort in Ras Al Khaimah with the hosting of the Emirates Junior Open Sunday at the recently-opened 18-hole course.
Though a small field of 20 players vied for the top honours, the quality of junior golf in the region was highlighted by the winning scores.
The gross prize went to Sean Thornberry, having returned a 79, while the nett division honours were clinched by Aditua Judge with a 68.
'Refreshing'
Andy Pilfold, professional head with Al Hamra Golf Club, later said: "I think you'll find most golf professionals and low-handicap golfers often beginning their golfing careers as juniors. It's refreshing to see the UAE and the UGA have been pro-active in continuing that tradition. Al Hamra really hopes, with our junior programmes in place, the next RAK Junior Open will be competed by both RAK Juniors and those from other Emirates. If you look at the ability of some of the players today, the competition will only get stronger."
RAK Ceramics were duly thanked for their continued support of the event.
