Dubai: Rachel Cassidy triumphed in Dubai Creeks 2008 Ladies' Amateur Open over the testing Creek course on Saturday.
A worthwhile holiday all the way from Stirling University in Scotland to visit her parents paid off with her second ladies open title at Dubai Creek with two solid rounds of gross 75 totalling 150.
Rachel was neck and neck with Adel McKelvey (ARGC) for most of the game until a superb second shot on the par five 10th finished feet from the hole and secured an easy eagle to go two shots in front and from there stretch her overall winning margin to five shots.
Rachel commented, "I have had a great time and thanks to the sponsors Kate Lord and The Park Hyatt Dubai and also Dubai Creek for staging another fantastic event."
Narrow win
Adel had to settle for second place for the second year in a row with a consistent performance of 75 & 80 (155).
In third place overall was Sara Engsig (ADGC) with 81 & 79 (160) and in fourth place Fiza Errington on 82 & 79 (161). Dubai Creeks Nasha Sarkari won the silver division with nett scores of 75 & 72 (147) narrowly winning by one shot from her fellow member Neama Maya who finished alone in second place with her nett scores of 67 & 81 (148).
The bronze division witnessed a magic moment for the first round where Dubai Creeks Noemy Bertoul scored an unbelievable nett 60 from her 31 handicap and followed it up with a nett 73 to win the division by a clear seven shots.
In second place was young Shloka Desai from Emirates Golf Club with her nett scores of 67 and 74 (140) one shot clear from her fellow member Janine Craig alone in third place with nett 72 & 69 (141).
