Dubai: In keeping with the firm's commitment to actively support community-based initiatives and the broader goals of the Dubai Government, Dubai Aluminium Company Limited (Dubal) will sponsor the 2008 Dubai International Arabian Horse Championship, which takes place at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from March 20 to 22.

This is the second consecutive year Dubal will be the Gold sponsor of the competition, a development which shows the company's belief in the role played by major sporting events in placing Dubai on the world stage.

Held under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and Chairman of Dubal, the championship aims to showcase the beauty, agility and heritage of Purebred Arabian horses.

This quality focus is a neat fit with Dubal's own corporate culture of excellence, typified by absolute quality in every aspect of its business.

Poised to strengthen

Since its inception in 1979, Dubal has risen from humble beginnings to become the seventh largest producer of primary aluminium in the world. The company produced almost 890,000 metric tonnes of hot metal in 2007 and, having recently increased its production capacity to 950,000 metric tonnes a year, is poised to strengthen its global rankings.

Already, Dubal's high quality, value-added products are distributed to more than 280 valued clients in 44 countries worldwide, particularly in the Far East, Europe, the ASEAN region, the Middle East and Mediterranean regions, as well as North America.

"As Dubai's industrial flagship, Dubal is a significant contributor to the local economy, both directly and indirectly," says Khalid Eisa Bu Humaid, GM of corporate relations and international affairs.

"We consider it our duty, and privilege, to invest further in the socio-economic development of the Emirate by immersing Dubal in the community through sponsorship of events, such as the Dubai International Arabian Horse Championship, that showcase Dubai's superb tourism and business infrastructure to international audiences while demonstrating our city's innovative and cosmopolitan flair.

"We also give generously of our company's time, financial resources and expertise to support a broad range of community-orientated events and activities, especially in the sporting and educational arenas."
