Dubai: Don't be surprised if you see trainer Doug Watson rooting for American raider Curlin when he runs in the $6million Dubai World Cup (Gr 1) on March 29.

While admitting to being gobsmacked by the absolute ease with which the 2007 Horse of the Year won his prep at Nad Al Sheba two weeks ago, Watson said that was not the only thing that has made him a Curlin fan.

"He's physically awesome to look at and ran a brilliant race, even if the competition wasn't all that hot," he said.

"But what has really impressed me is that his connections chose to send him to Dubai early, and to give him a prep race here before the Dubai World Cup.

"It's things like this that add value to the Dubai Racing Carnival and support the fantastic ideas that the Maktoum Family have to make Dubai an international racing hub.

"So in some ways I'm hoping that Curlin will win the World Cup, because that will encourage more international trainers to do the same and bring their horses to Dubai early to prepare and compete in the Carnival," Watson added.
