Dubai: Argentinean trainer Juan Udaondo is expecting Latency to end his illustrious career on a high note on Saturday.

The Argentinean challenger turned in his final piece of work ahead of the turf showpiece, starting from the 2,400-metre mark, before picking up from the 1,200-metre pole.

The son of Slew Gin Fizz stretched out well in the last 400 metres, clocking a leisurely final time of 1:10 seconds for 1,000 metres.

Trainer Udaondo was evidently pleased with this performance.

"Latency is much fitter than when he ran here the last time. He looks fantastic at the moment and has improved a lot from the race," he noted. The Argentinean horse has already spent more than two months in Dubai, and that has helped him adapt to the conditions.

"He gives me a lot of satisfaction and there is something in him that convinces me that he can go on to achieve bigger milestones," added the 51-year-old trainer.

Udaondo has won over 500 races during his 24-year career. In 2007 he trained 12 winners from 52 runners at Palermo.

Glowing career

With such a glowing career well behind him, Udaondo is hoping for one last hurrah from his South American champion.

"This may perhaps be among his last races. And we would definitely want him to end his career on a winning note," Udaondo stated. One of his finest qualities as a horse is his strong finish.

"Over the years he has perfected his finishes," Udaondo said.

"He is a horse that likes to come from off the pace so we are hoping the style of running will suit him more than the fast pace he encountered in the Maktoum Challenge."

Udaondo said the race would be competitive, but he was hopeful Latency would take his chance this time around to become the first Argentinean-trained horse to score a win at the Dubai World Cup meeting.

"He has a splendid finish, a big final rush as he always likes to win from behind," Udaondo stated.
