Dubai: Mizzna jockey Tadhg O'Shea paid outgoing champion Madjani the ultimate tribute as Mizzna's trainer Eric Lemartinel predicted a bright future for the new champion.
"Madjani has been a real star. But today we had a horse who is very, very brave," O'Shea said after his exciting win in the Dubai Kahayla Classic.
The jockey stated that age is definitely on his horse's side.
"She's only six years old and she has a long, long time to go," said O'Shea.
"She has five wins out of her five starts this year and that should be good enough to answer a lot of questions."
O'Shea himself has been in superb form this season, his victory on Mizzna the 26th win of this year.
Mizzna has had five wins, of which three have come in Group 1 races.
Lemartinel was pleased with the improvement shown by his horse.
"That is why I did not race her in the Maktoum Challenge [in January]. She's very strong and I know her better," he said.
'Ready for 2,000 metres'
"She was always an eight-furlong horse, now she is ready for the 2,000 metres."
The trainer said that this performance will surely see Mizzna back in the UAE for even bigger things next season.
"We will have an even better programme charted out for her," Lemartinel said. "She's shown so much character that we cannot let that to just go away.
Gillian Duffield, Madjani's trainer, was gracious despite seeing the end of a three-year dominance of the event.
"We were always wary of her [Mizzna]. But Madjani has done his job. He's eight now and we are proud that he's not been disgraced," Duffield said. "And now that she has beaten him, I hope she [Mizzna] can win three in a row."
