Dubai: Dubai World Cup (Gr 1) winner Curlin has arrived safely back in the United States and is spending his required quarantine time at Belmont Park in New York, under the supervision of trainer Steve Asmussen's assistant Toby Sheets.
Plans call for the four-year-old colt, rated the world's best horse following his record 7 3/4-length victory over 2007 UAE Triple Crown winner Asiatic Boy, to travel to Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky, tomorrow, where he will be reunited with assistant trainer Scott Blasi.
Race schedule
After overseeing Curlin's training during his approximate six-week stay in Dubai, Blasi flew to the US on the day after the Dubai World Cup and is based at Keeneland, where Asmussen's Kentucky Derby (Gr 1) hopeful Pyro is stabled. Although a race schedule for the rest of this season has not been determined, Asmussen has said Cigar's career earnings record is a target for Curlin, whose Dubai World Cup prize of $3.6 million boosted his overall bankroll to $8,807,800.
Thus, the son of Smart Strike is just $1,192,015 behind Cigar's mark of $9,999,815.
