Abu Dhabi: German-bred Mythos won The President of the UAE Challenge Derby for Pure-bred Arabian at Jagersro Racing Club in Sweden on Sunday.
Sunday's race in Sweden kick-started The President of the UAE Challenge Derby race series, sponsored by the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation.
Mythos, ridden brilliantly by Fredrick Johansson, won the 1,730-metre race run on dirt with a total prize money of 14,000 euros (Dh78,400) on offer.
The Jan P.H. Pubben-trained Mythos settled in the lead very well, despite starting from the 11th stall and having to be rushed into the first turn.
Jockey Frederick later said: "I rested him down the backstretch and waited for a challenge. When the challenge came from Mistral Del Sol, he ran on again and refused to lose." Mythos is owned by A. Nabben.
The French-bred Mistral Del Sol, ridden by M. Santos, finished in the second place, while another German-bred horse, Marvin Al Samawi, ridden by Piotr Piatkowski, finished third.
