Abu Dhabi: Thani Al Qamzy, the ace UAE driver, repeated his glorious feat and won the second round of the President's Cup for Formula II Powerboats, held in Qatar on Saturday.

Al Qamzy had won the first round only 24 hours earlier, beating drivers from Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE, France, Finland,Portugal and South Africa.

Frenchman Phillipe Toure, who had finished third in the first round, came second in the second round with UAE's Majid Al Mansouri in third.

"I'm happy to win the first two rounds of the championship. I dedicate this victory to Shaikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, the president of the Abu Dhabi International Marine Sports Club, for his continuous support," Al Qamzy told Gulf News yesterday.

"It was tough, beating the other drivers who have vast experience and many achievements in the F-II field. I am also happy with the performance of my other countrymen, specially Majid Al Mansouri and Al Hamly," Al Qamzy added.

Ahmad Al Hamly, who had finished second in the first round, retired in the second after colliding with a big wave. He was 6th and pushing forward when the collision occurred.

Al Qamzy won the Pole and started first from the pit stop while his countryman Aref Al Zafein and Toure came second and third, respectively. But Al Zafeen was beaten by Toure and Al Mansouri, who came from fifth to take the third place.
