Dubai: Brazilian Poliana Oktmoto knows time is running out for her.

As an open water swimmer, the 25-year-old knows that the Beijing Summer Olympics may be her first and last chance to take part in an Olympics.

"It has always been my dream to compete in an Olympic Games," Oktmoto told Gulf News.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is allowing open water swimmers Olympic participation in this year's Games. "We are so happy that we are going to get a chance in competing in an Olympic Games. This is the very first time for me and I feel so elated that I have a chance to go to Beijing," Oktmoto stated. Oktmoto switched over from regular swimming pool racing to open water competitions some four years back. "I have never been to an Olympics and this may be my last chance to go to one," she smiled.

"But open water swimmers have a bigger life span in the sport. So who knows I may be there for the next Olympics too."
