Dubai: The GCC junior tennis championships for boys (Under-18 and Under-14) will be held later this week at the Fujairah Tennis and Country Club.

Sponsored by du, the UAE junior teams are set to battle for the GCC's biggest trophy against a 64-player field from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Jordan.

The competition will start on February 16 at the UAE's newest tennis facility housing a 3,000-seater arena.

As many as 92 matches will be played in the Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum tennis facility during the competition being held under the patroange of Shaikh Hamad Bin Mohammad Al Sharqi.

The UAE under-18 team will be led by Hamad Abbas Al Janahi, Faisal Bastaki, Khalid Al Hassani, Rashed Bushager, Mohammad Abdullah Al Janahi and Fujairah lad Abdullah Khalid Al Ali.

The under-14 challenge will be spearheaded by Saud Khalid Al Ali, Abdulrahman Al Janahi, Majid Abid Bushager, Mohammad Saeed Al Fardan, Abdullah Al Ahli and Fahd Al Janahi.

The UAE is expecting the biggest challenge to come from Qatar and Kuwait, the biggest tennis nations in the region.

"The country club with its seven floodlit tennis courts, a main stadium for 3,000 spectators, large gymnasium, health suites with sauna, steam, jacuzzi, an outdoor swimming pool, kids playground facility, studio apartments and multi-purpose indoor sports hall is proud to be chosen to host this event," stated FTCC Chairman Ghafour Behroozian.

The tournament draw will be held next Friday (February 15).
