Dubai: The technical secretary of Tennis Emirates has welcomed the inclusion of ATP ranking points for players taking part in Davis Cup fixtures starting from 2009.

"I know such a rule may not have an impact for a country like the UAE, but it is a start and our players can at least aspire for ranking points in the future," Slah Bramly told Gulf News.

It is hoped the decision will encourage more top-ranking players to compete.

"It is encouraging for players who are willing to put their country before themselves," Bramly added.
