Dubai: Australian Troy Gillham clinched the men's singles title at the 1st Holiday International Sharjah Tennis Open that concluded late on Saturday.

Gillham, who finished runner-up to Moroccan Karim Alayli in last weekend's Zayed Cup final in Fujairah, was clinical in his approach with a straight-set 6-1, 6-3 win against top seeded Russian Alexey Filenkov.

"It was tough out there, but this has been a satisfying week for me," Gillham said. "I didn't play well at all," the 26-year-old Russian stated.

Earlier, Grace Talih made it a double when she defeated Nigeria's Beauty Macleod 6-4, 6-2.

Both players exchanged breaks in the first set, but a nagging wrist injury and chants from the crowd saw the 28-year-old mother of one lose her focus. "I just wanted to finish it off after I heard some remarks from her supporters in the crowd," Macleod said.

"It has been a learning experience for me," she smiled. Talih was pleased with her performance having won the girls under-16 title as well the previous day. She also claimed two titles at the Coral Beach Open two weeks back.
