Dubai: Mohammad Jalfar, board chairman of the UAE volleyball association, said that the decision to allow clubs to sign up a third foreign player will not be annulled.
"We took the decision for the benefit of the clubs and to promote the standard of the game," Jalfar told Gulf News yesterday.
He added: "The third foreign recruit will play in the FA Cup at the start of the new season, following which the clubs will select the best two to play with both in the league, Zayed Cup and the President's Cup."
Jalfar pointed out that the clubs who protested the decision don't have the right to discuss it in the association general assembly which will be held next month.
Technical decision
"This is a technical decision arrived at by the board of directors and not the general assembly who do not have the right to cancel it."
The volleyball association board chairman said that they will work hard to rope in more new clubs to play in the league.
"I will meet with Sharjah Sports Council to discuss the prospects of roping in Sharjah and Al Shaab Clubs in the league. The two clubs were founders of the game in the country and we want them back in the league," said Jalfar.
He said that they will be busy in the coming period to prepare for the international volleyball congress, to be held in Dubai on June 16-17.
"We are working hard for hosting the FIBA 31st Congress. FIBA president Robin Acosta has also praised our efforts to make it the most successful congress in FIBA history," Jalfar added.
