Dubai: Al Shabab jumped to the top spot in the volleyball league by beating Hatta 3-1 to raise their points tally to 40. Al Ain are now second with 39 points after defeating Al Ittihad 3-1.
The field wore a depleted look due to the absence of Al Nasr, who are holding a training camp in Kuwait to prepare for the GCC clubs tournament to be held in Bahrain next week.
Al Shabab beat Hatta 3-1 (25-15, 23-25, 25-13, 25-10) while Al Ain defeated Al Ittihad 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 25-23, 25-23). Al Ain are second with 39 points, while Al Ittihad stayed in ninth place with 12 points.
Al Jazira beat Al Wasl 3-2 following a tough match at the Al Jazira indoor sports hall in Abu Dhabi. The home team won 25-19, 28-26, 22-25, 23-25, 15-12. Al Jazira became fifth with 24 points and Al Wasl sixth with 19 points.
Meanwhile, the draw of the President's Cup was carried at the Dubai Municipality Club with 11 clubs taking part.
The first round on April 18 pits Al Rams vs Al Ittihad, Al Ahli vs Hatta, Al Wasl vs Ajman. In the quarterfinals on May 9, Al Nasr meet the winner of Rams vs Ittihad while Al Shabab meet Al Jazira and Al Ain meet the winner of Ahli and Hatta. Bani Yas meet the winner of Al Wasl and Ajman.
The semifinals will be played on May 14 and the final on May 20.
In the President's Cup quarterfinals on May 9, Al Nasr meet the winner of Rams vs Ittihad while Al Shabab meet Al Jazira and Al Ain play the winner of Ahli and Hatta...
