Dubai: The UAE volleyball association have bid to host the finals of the 2011 World Cup under 19s. The announcement was made by Mohammad Abdul Karim Jalfar, the UAE VA president.

"We will prepare a complete file to present it to the international volleyball federation (FIVB) executive committee in its coming meeting in September at Lusanne," said Jalfar.

The UAE VA association also bid during the 31st congress of the FIVB, held in Dubai last month to host the 2009 ladies clubs world championships.

It will also be discussed and a decision made in the FIVB coming meeting in September.

The FIVB President, Ruben Acosta, announced when he was in Dubai last month for the FIVB congress that the UAE can and should host big tournaments.

"International ladies championships have to be organised in the UAE to spread wide the volleyball among ladies and girls," he said.

Acosta praised the UAE VA for the successful hosting of the 31st FIVB congress.

In a speech delivered at the end of the Dubai congress, the FIVB President said, "After what I saw, the UAE and Dubai in particular can host international volleyball tournaments in a very successful way and it will be a big boost for volleyball in the UAE and the region."
