Wedding bells for Barker
Former college football star Jay Barker is set to marry country singer Sara Evans. Barker, 35, led the University of Alabama to a US national championship in 1992 and hosts a morning radio show in Birmingham, has four children from his former marriage, while the 37-year-old Evans, who divorced her husband Craig Schelske in October 2006 after 13 years of marriage, has three kids.

Addicks ink Chinese deal
Charlton Athletic are following in the footsteps of some European giants by signing a partnership deal with Chinese Super League side Shandong Luneng. As per the deal, Charlton will tour China in the next three years but the return to Asia is just one aspect of the overseas agreement between the two teams, apart from commercial and playing benefits for both sides. There would also be a series of player and coaching exchanges at youth level, while Charlton would devise a new management model for Shandong’s academy.

Stars play courtroom duel
Singapore’s top Olympic hopes are set to battle it out in courtrooms rather than on court. Badminton ace Ronaldo Susilo is mulling legal action against former lover and star player Li Ji Wei to get a share of a car and a condominium they bought when they were together. Susilo, who upset world No 1 Lin Dan at the Athens Olympics in 2004, had consulted lawyers and was seeking the payoff after his five-and-half year affair with Li ended in January.

King Khan has a new rival
Bollywood badshah Shah Rukh Khan is facing stiff competition from a former star. Mithun Chakraborty, who grew up in Kolkata before moving to Bollywood, has bought the Kolkata Tigers team in the Indian Cricket League. The move is aimed at nullifying the popularity of Shah Rukh, who owns the Kolkata Knight Riders. Though Shah Rukh paid $75 million (Dhs 275.3m) for buying the Knight Riders, it is unclear how much Mithun paid for his team.
